On December 31, 2025, the wastewater treatment and reuse project of the Sino-Saudi Gulei Ethylene Project, contracted by Shanghai Lanke Petrochemical Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. (referred to as "Lanke Environmental"), successfully completed its intermediate handover, officially entering the preparatory stage for trial operation. This milestone event has not only strengthened the environmental safeguards for Fujian Province's largest-ever single-investment Sino-foreign joint venture petrochemical project but has also become a green practice model for the in-depth alignment between the Belt and Road Initiative and Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030.

As a core public utility supporting facility for the Sino-Saudi petrochemical complex, this wastewater treatment system serves as the "steel kidney" of the industrial park. It handles complex wastewater discharged from multiple process units, including low‑salinity RO concentrate, ethylene spent caustic, high‑salinity PC wastewater, and other multi‑condition effluents, with a treatment capacity of 1,650 m³/h. Since its commencement in March 2024, the Lanke team has adhered to the philosophy of "focus, professionalism, innovation, and integrity" to overcome challenges. To date, they have completed 16,960 meters of piling, poured nearly 40,000 cubic meters of concrete, installed 382 sets of equipment and 37.5 kilometers of process piping, and laid over 312 kilometers of cables. While achieving 1.2 million safe work hours with zero accidents, the project was mechanically completed 14 days ahead of schedule. The team has also been repeatedly honored by the client with awards such as "Best Contractor" and "Outstanding Contractor."

Faced with multiple technical challenges in the project, Lanke Environmental drew upon its portfolio of over 300 patents and proprietary technologies to achieve precise breakthroughs with independently developed process packages:
●To address fluctuations in hardness and alkalinity in circulating blowdown water, dynamic adjustment processes were implemented to adapt in real time to changing water quality.
●For membrane elements prone to organic and microbial fouling, a combined solution of enhanced pretreatment, anti‑fouling membrane materials, and online cleaning was adopted.
●High‑efficiency oil separation and a two‑stage biochemical process were innovatively applied to protect the biological system from oil‑related impacts.
●Specialized salt‑tolerant bacteria were cultivated and nitrogen removal processes were optimized to overcome industry challenges such as poor biodegradability and excessive total nitrogen in high‑salinity wastewater.
●A closed‑loop approach—from sealed source collection and graded transportation to advanced end‑of‑pipe purification—ensured full‑process control, resulting in exhaust emission indicators surpassing national standards.
Ultimately, effluent quality exceeded both national and industrial standards, with water recycling reaching up to 80%, providing a solid guarantee for green production within the industrial park.
